Description
HeadUp is used to provide cervical support for patients with motor neuron diseases, such as ALS, where the patient has difficulty keeping his head in an upright position. The inner soft part of the collar is made of Outlast material which is temperature-regulating and can be worn against the skin for a longer period of time. The surface-mounted struts in 2- or 3-mm thermoplastic are individually adjusted for both the desired stability and individual fit. The collar is close to the body and acts as an external muscle abdomen where adequate support is obtained depending on the loss of function. The collar should be fitted individually by orthopedic technical staff.
HeadUp is developed and designed with the Neuro team at the University Hospital in Sheffield (UK). It aims to replace conventional neck orthoses for patients suffering from permanent muscle or neurological dysfunction in order to provide individual support for the neck and head.
